-Abstract-
A 66 years old, female case of brown tumor in secondary hyperparathyroidism which
occurred on maxillary right edentulous molar area was reported with review of
literature.
The results on the basis of clinical, roentgenographical, and microscopic findings were
as follows.
1. In clinical features, the brown tumor was reactive lesion caused by calcium
metabolism in human body, and was expansible lesion like cysts.
2. In roentgenographic features, the brown tumor might be seen as a radiopaque lesion
by expasion ＆ extrusion of lesion and angle of x-ray.
3. In bone scan about hyperparathyroidism, abnormal reactive features of calvarium,
jaws, acromioclavicular joints and sternum were observed.
4. In histopathological features, osteoid surrounded by active osteoblasts and a number
of osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells, and fibrotic stroma of brown tumor were
seen.
5. Giant cell lesion in nyperparathyroidism might be not only associated with general
factors, but also associated with local factors in human body.
6. For diagnosis of secondary hyperparathyroidism, bio-physicochemical examination
must be done.
